What a Great weekend we had at the Santa Cruz Ranch/Headwaters for Heroes Gold Star Spouses Hunt

What a Great weekend we had at the Santa Cruz Ranch/Headwaters for Heroes Gold Star Spouses Hunt. All four women landed at least one deer during this event, including two nice eight point bucks.
These fine ladies came to us from Kansas, Pennsylvania, and Texas. They all were excellent shots and mastered the cold wet weather never backing down.It was easy to see that they carried their husbands warrior spirits on this hunt.
We cannot thank our hosts at the Santa Cruz Ranch enough for such a great hunt.

Santa Cruz ranch Gold Star Childrens Hunt.

It was a great weekend for the Headwaters for Heroes and Santa Cruz Ranch Gold Star Childrens Hunt. We had a total of 4 teenagers attend this hunt coming from Biloxi, Miss, Katy, Texas and Krum, Texas.
It was a successful hunt, getting 2 bucks and 4 does. But the number of deer is not the most important success. We had four  kids that have never been hunting come out and learn to shoot and bag a deer. Talk about an awesome weekend. We all had a great time at the Santa Cruz Ranch.
We can’t thank our gracious hosts Stan and Gerry Sigman for all they do for our Gold Star Families and our Combat Wounded by opening up their ranch to the families and the veterans and allowing Headwaters for Heroes to be a part of this giving back.
A great deal of thanks goes out to Peter and Jessica Johns of the Santa Cruz Ranch for all they did in helping put this hunt together.

We can’t thank Greg Tatum and all the fine folks of the Bells Hollow Ranch enough for such a great hunt.

Another great weekend of hunting for our Combat Wounded in the Hill Country.
Octavio a three time Purple Heart receipient bagged an outstanding 9 point buck and a hog during his hunt on the Bells Hollow Ranch located near Harper, Texas.
We can’t thank Greg Tatum and all the fine folks of the Bells Hollow Ranch enough for such a great hunt.
This is the second year that Headwaters for Heroes and the Bells Hollow Ranch have worked together to get our Combat Wounded Veterans out in the great outdoors.

My Headwaters 4 Heroes adventure and the time of my life, bring back life for this Veteran on Veterans day 2016.

My Headwaters 4 Heros adventure and the time of my life, bring back life for this Veteran on Veterans day 2016. I have had a lot of complex events in my life this last year. Some events that most parents can not fathom or wish to think about with one’s child and life changing. I said that to say this, the hunt that H4H provided to I has given me a breathe of fresh air, life, a purpose and direction again… This opportunity to take my first deer, a doe, and my first Buck, that gave me the Buck fever that was powerfully out of this world. My Buck fever could only be remembered as a young man on my first hunting trips with my family. My first Antelope and Elk, but never a deer life got in the way of such great opportunities. This H4H adventure and opportunities fishing and hunting are just the best times ever in my life and quite therapeutic I must say… It takes a broken hearted, minded, partially souled, and painful bodied Vet and make us feel like we are whole again, in a way. A moment in life to have no pain physical, mentally and of the heart, it made me feel like a man I once was. It made time freeze for me and feel how appreciative of living life in general, but to enjoying it also… It had brought me back to reality in the joyous times of my childhood being out there in WY and NV with my father and my grandfather just us against nature, mom and grandma at base camp making a great hunting dinner. Us a family against all the elements being reminded of those thoughts is awesome for I… When I was a boy and/ or young man was some of the best times of my life. Back when I had innocence of how life and the real world can be and the freedoms that are not free that I took so lightly and the moments with two real men and heros, my superheroes in my life… War zone memories and all the violence that you see in and of today, I’m writing this the day after a San Antonio police officer was shot and killed execution style for no reason what so ever… These H4H opportunities brings me back to a beautiful reality that is still there our beautiful country and what America has to offer for us. To have the rights and freedoms that we have to go out and go hunting to provide for our families, the challenges of it and an animal giving its life for us to eat and proved for our families. Not to mention the opportunity to unit a one and bring life into this crazy world, the birth of a calf and saving the life of it mother in distress. The hunt and the camaraderie amongst men especially other veterans that are involved with this… Just the greatest people in general and hunters in general that have been there and they understand, the feeling of a combat vet and of ‘Buck Fever’ the chance to hunt and the challenges to overcome that it provides. The greatest feeling of being alive and able to have the sun on your face, smells of great morning as the sun brings the world alive in nature… The individuals that have provided this opportunity for us are amazing and this is why. Just because not only are they saying, “we support our troops” but I’ve always believed in one thing. Actions speak louder than words and your actions shows your character and what one stands for. Taking the veterans such as myself and allowing us to have a moment of Innocence back from our childhood and back in our lives once again. To have a greatest time in the camaraderie among the men and Hunters is the most excellent times ever. Being part of the great vast outdoors of this Greatest country ever OUR United States and Our Freedom given by Veterans all over this world… GOD Bless this great nation.

G2 Ranch Hunt – Veterans Day Weekend

WOW!!! What a Veterans Day, we could not have planned a better Veterans Day then one we had at the G2 Ranch located near Pearsall, Texas.

Headwaters for Heroes had the distinct honor of taking Phillips Casey one of our Purple Heart Heroes to the incredible G2 Ranch near Pearsall, Texas for what has proved to be the opportunity of a life time.

We arrived at the G2 Ranch Friday Nov 11th, Veterans Day, early enough to qualify on the range, but with no real expectation getting into the blind that evening. However, the fine folks at the G2 Ranch had other plans. After Phillips Casey qualified with only two shots on the range, both shots touching in the bulls eye, Cody Campbell of the G2 informed us that the buck they had picked for our veteran had been moving the last few days and they wanted to get on with the hunt.

So that beautiful Veterans Day afternoon Phillips Casey along with his guide Ellis Cortez headed to the blind along with Cody Campbell who would be videotaping the hunt. The G2 crew had seen the buck at two different blinds during the week so they were not sure which blind he would actually show up at. So Randy Simpson and myself went to one blind to act as scouts and Phillips, Ellis, and Cody went to the other blind.

Sure enough late in the afternoon Randy and I got site of the buck, and was I blown away. Randy let the other guys know that we have seen the big boy, and he was heading past us and towards them.

It wasn’t long and he made his appearance, and Ellis said to Phillips “There is your buck” to which Phillips said no way. Phillips could not believe what he was seeing. Once again Ellis let Phillips now that is your buck, to which Phillips wasted no time pulling the trigger. One shot, one buck, and what a buck it was 17 points and scored 205. Phillips was speechless.

The fine folks at the G2 wanted this to be the best Veterans Day possible. So Cody Campbell, Ellis Cortez, and Randy Simpson put their minds to it and made it happen.

Headwaters for Heroes cannot thank the fine folks at the G2 Ranch near Pearsall, Texas enough for making this, such a special Veterans Day for our Purple Heart Veteran Phillips Casey. A very special thanks goes out to Don & Sandy Gilchrist, Summer Haltom, and Paxton Gilchrist for their generosity and unwavering support for our veterans. The hunt was awesome, the food was awesome, but most of all the people were awesome. Please take the time to visit the G2 Ranch website to learn more about their operation www.g2ranch.com
