Alamo Area Council of Governments – Weatherization Assistance Program

Good Afternoon Mrs. Tami King,

It was a pleasure speaking with yesterday late afternoon.  I work with Alamo Area Council of Governments (AACOG) Weatherization Assistance Program.  Gillespie County is one of the underserved counties that we service but unfortunately not many people know or have heard of our program.  I hope you are able to help me spread the information in this email to your community.  I know you work with veterans in Gillespie County and may be able to inform your clients about the Weatherization Assistance Program.

The Alamo Area Council of Governments (AACOG) Weatherization Assistance Program is accepting applications.  The AACOG Weatherization Assistance Program is funded by the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs and the United States Department of Energy.  The program is designed to help low-income people to overcome the high cost of energy by installing weatherization energy conservation measures in their homes – at no cost. The program is open to applicants’ whose overall household income falls at or below 150% of the Federal Poverty Level.  Home owners and renters can apply.

Persons in Family

150% Federal Poverty Income Guidelines

1

$18,090

2

$24,360

3

$30,630

4

$36,900

If the household income falls within these income limits give us a call to provide you a fuller explanation of the Program benefits.

Once an application is qualified, the individual needs of the home are assessed and measures are installed to help keep the home warm in the winter, cool in the summer, and safe all year long.

Also attached is a copy of the current application and flyer to apply for the Weatherization Assistance Program.  Applications can be mailed to 8700 Tesoro Drive, Suite 160 San Antonio, TX 78217, Faxed 210-225-5937 and by email towap@aacog.com.  More information is available online at www.aacog.com/wap or call (210) 362-5282 or toll free at 1-800-749-2010, for more information.

National Desert Storm War Memorial

MESSAGE:
My fellow veterans, the NDSWM is at a critical step in our fundraising for the memorial to be located on the Capitol Mall.Starting on Jan 28, 2017, the NDSWM has launched “Storm Surge 2017!” This will be a 31-day Fundraising Campaign (Jan 28 – Feb 28) to coincide with the 26th Anniversary of the Cease Fire of Operation Desert Storm and the Liberation of Kuwait. As the NDSWM moves forward with US Senate Joint Resolution 1 and the full Senate vote, our immediate financial need is $250,000.00. This money is critically needed in order to complete the ongoing site selection process and get down to the FINAL location.
The details:
ANY DOLLAR WILL BE RECEIVED WITH HONOR. Please consider leaving a comment on the Fundraising Page as this will be an encouragement to those looking at the Site. You will be given the option to make your name and comment available only to the Fundraiser. The NDSWM recommends you allow your name and (optional) comment to be public as this is an excellent way to lend validity to the Fundraiser. In the early stages, the people are going to be looking close to make sure this is a valid fundraiser – and they should!
The NDSWM thanks you for your generous donation and support. If anyone has any question(s), feel free to contact me at 828-246-7632. Please pass this message on to family and friends. I am originally from and live in the TX Hill Country. I would be honored to come speak to groups and clubs.
Respectfully,
Karl Lang, USAF Retired

It is all about the Veteran

They come in all age groups, and they all have one thing in common.

They served.

They did their time.

And the best memories they will ever have will be those shared with other veterans.

New law allows injured veterans to recoup erroneous severance taxes.

Subject: Combat related severance pay law change

FYI,

The attached article outlines the latest change in the law that governs DFAS and the military taxing medical separation from the service due to COMBAT Related injuries sine 1991.  Anyone that was separated from the military due to a combat related injury since 1991 was taxed by DFAS at the 25% rate, and they should NOT have been, congress has ordered DFAS to contact the various veterans and inform them how to seek relief.  We also need to keep in mind that the VA sometimes recouped the money that was severance pay, but was not supposed to for combat injuries/conditions (per the PEB/MEB/IDES paperwork).

Thank you,

Tami King

Garrett our Gold Star Hunter did very well bagging a fine 12 point buck that scored 143.

What a weekend for our young Gold Star hunter. The Headwaters for Heroes/G2 Ranch Gold Star Hunt took place at the G2 Ranch located near Pearsall, Texas .  Garrett our Gold Star Hunter did very well bagging a fine 12 point buck that scored 143. Not bad for his first deer ever. Not to mention landing six hogs and one rattlesnake. Garret took part in the in the whole process of skinning and quartering of the deer.
Headewaters for Heroes cannot thank the fine folks at the G2 Ranch for all they did to make this the most memorable event for Garret. Cody Campbell did an awesome job guiding Garret to find the perfect buck. Josh Peavey for providing the rifle for garret to shoot. Ellis Cortez for his help and instruction during the skinning and quartering process. There were many more as well as other hunters that all made Garret feel right at home. Beleive there were a lot of “Big Brothers” for Garret on this awesome hunt. That is what it is all about.

G2 Ranch Desert Storm Veterans Hunt

What a nice hunt we had at the G2 Ranch Desert Storm Veterans Hunt. Two good bucks for two awesome veterans. These two disabled veterans served in Desert Storm and what better way than to show our appreciation than a great hunt on the G2 Ranch located in Pearsall, Texas.
